Christian Therapy

We all go through moments in life when we can benefit from additional help to break away from unhealthy thinking patterns and habits that keep us from living in a way that feels authentic and aligned with our faith. Integrative Christian Therapy in Studio City, CA provides a safe space to process your feelings and gain the tools to go towards your goals.

All About Christian Therapy

Christians have hope in God and His plan for our lives. Sometimes, we lose sight of our hope in the face of problems. Just like everyone else, Christians struggle with anxiety, depression, guilt, negative feelings, confusion about the past or future, relationships, and so much more. A common difference amongst Christians is that they often experience more shame and guilt when struggling. But, just like everyone else, Christians deserve a space to work through whatever they might be dealing with.

As a Christian myself, I can provide therapy from a Christian perspective. I understand your beliefs and together, we can work through life's challenges with treatment that aligns with your faith. You deserve peace and freedom from whatever is weighing you down.

I am here to help you heal from wounds, process your feelings and adjust so you can live in a way that feels authentic and true to you and your belief system.

I also work with many people who are not Christians and I fully respect their beliefs as well. If you want to explore your beliefs/faith, we can, if not, that is okay too. Therapy is a time you can be honest about your beliefs without being judged. You deserve a safe space to work through the things that are bothering you, figure out what's going on in your life, and reflect on what you want and how to get there.

Who Can Benefit From Christian Therapy?

Here at Found Hope Counseling, I welcome Christians, people of faith who identify with Christian thinking, people who grew up in a Christian home, and many people who do not identify as such. Whether you are experiencing everyday struggles or faith struggles, I can address them through guidance, support, and tools that are aligned with your belief system. I am here to help you understand and process your feelings, and to support you in your journey towards a life that is aligned with your faith.

God loves you regardless of what your mental health journey might look like. You’re not struggling because you lack faith. You don’t have to feel guilty or ashamed for feeling the way you do. I believe that you can benefit from tools and guidance that are in sync with your beliefs. Therapy can be your time to take a pause, feel your feelings, reflect, heal, and take steps that will help you make choices you feel good about.

Unresolved issues tend to affect us in ways that can seem unrelated. For example, your relationships with others, your sense of identity and self-worth, or your certainty and devotion to your beliefs can be conditioned by your struggles. It can even present as physical symptoms, such as migraines, muscle pain, trouble sleep, GI issues, etc, or as changes in your mood and difficulty making decisions. It can cause you to feel anxiety, depression, sadness, irritability, numbness, or overwhelmed. If you are struggling -be it from a past traumatic experience, changes in the present, or the notion of an uncertain future- you will likely find that therapy can be a valuable resource during this time in your life.

What Can I Expect From Christian Therapy?

Therapy with a Christian perspective is intended as a safe space for you to heal and grow without being concerned with being strayed away from your core beliefs or sense of self. In every session, you will get to talk, reflect, ramble on, cry, laugh, or just feel your feelings, whatever they might be. This is a non-judgmental space that's here to serve you, and you get to use it however you need it.

All clients are different, and therefore, I do not have a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. We are licensed and trained in a variety of methods that have demonstrated effectiveness, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). In addition, I commonly use other techniques from Strength-Based Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) depending on the patient needs.

I also offer Christian integrated therapy when it is a good fit. Offering a faith-based orientation means there is one more tool available in our toolbox, and with that, more opportunities to offer hope and healing to clients. Just like every therapeutic intervention, Christian Integration is definitely not for everyone, but it’s very effective for many.

Is Christian Therapy The Right Fit For You?

You tend to avoid your feelings and struggles

I often meet clients that struggle to accept they are not feeling well because they feel as if they should not feel the way that they do. This leads them to guilt and shame, but not to a resolution.

Therapy can help you process your feelings and struggles in a safe, reassuring and non-judgmental space.

You think you shouldn’t ask for help

Christians find enormous support in their faith, through the Bible, praying, and their church community. It’s natural to think this support should be enough to help you deal with anything life might throw at you, but that’s not always the case.

It’s ok to get professional help for you to heal and reach a deeper connection.

You fear therapy might not align with your faith

A common concern when considering therapy is the possibility of receiving guidance that is in opposition to your belief system.

The integration of the Christian faith and the therapeutic methods provides you with an effective approach to healing that is in sync with your beliefs.

- FAQs about Christian Therapy -

  • In the field of counseling and psychology, the Christian Integration approach seeks to rebuild the bridge between science and faith. It values what each perspective adds to our profession and seeks to integrate the unique qualities of each so that they both play a part in the mental health conversation.

Hayley wrote an article about it, you can read it here.

  • The short answer is no. There is a difference and clients should know which approach they’re signing up for. Having appropriate expectations is very helpful in protecting against confusion and potential hurt.

If you can imagine a spectrum with me, it would start with Traditional Therapy (science only) on one end, Christian Integration in the middle (science and faith), and Biblical Counseling (faith only) on the other end.

In our opinion, there is a place for each of these approaches (for example, receiving counseling services through your church vs. a licensed mental health professional).

  • All clients are different, and therefore, we do not have a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. We are licensed and trained in a variety of evidence-based methods so that we can tailor the therapy experience depending on the requirements of each client. Offering a faith-based orientation means there is one more tool available in our toolbox, and with that, more opportunities to offer hope and healing to clients.

We are focused on treatments that have demonstrated effectiveness, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).

Our hope is that combining the strengths of both psychology and faith into our therapeutic approach may just make all the difference in someone’s healing journey – and that someone maybe you. Please reach out if you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment.

  • We accept cash, check, or credit card for payments.
